Prof. Gordon's early work involved field application engineering in the area of industrial motion control. Working many hours alongside company engineers, he began to recognize the importance that design choices play in the safety of products and machines.
As his career progressed, Prof. Gordon had the opportunity to work in the design and development of new products - products intended for the industrial, automotive/trucking and aerospace markets.
In 1995, Gordon joined the Rochester Institute of Technology as a full-time faculty member in the department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Technology. He is currently a tenured Full Professor. Since joining RIT, he has had the opportunity to share his knowledge with students by teaching courses including Traffic Accident Reconstruction, Vehicle Dynamics, Human Factors & Ergonomics, Mechanical Analysis and Design, Machine Design, Applied Mechanics, Dynamics and Finite Element Anaysis (FEA).
His research areas include highway safety, human factors and accident reconstruction. He has been qualified to opine on the engineering, ergonomics, physics and human factors of an accident.
He has been the faculty advisor for the world-class Baja SAE competitive off-road racing team since 1996.
Because of his connection to both academia and industry Mr. Gordon is in a rather unique position to strengthen the practical knowledge of his students while maintaining his currency in the field of forensic engineering and accident reconstruction. "I feel very fortunate to be able to teach what I practice and practice what I teach."
